Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe, Ohio to Olden Wilson, a ironworker, as well as Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the sixth of seven kids. Nancy was inspired by her father's musical tastes as well as the music played at her family home. At the age of 4years old, Nancy was aware that her future was as an artist. She was able to develop her talents by singing with the church choir. They performed together between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made while she was in the Carolyn Club Big Band. Cannonball addederley recommended that she relocate to New York for her career after which she relocated to The Big Town. In just a few months she had been singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club located on Boston Road near The Bronx. Adderley's representative heard her sing and immediately signed her. He signed a contract with Capitol Records in the year 1960. she debuted that year with the single. Guess Who I Saw today Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Following the influence of Adderley she shifted her focus to R&B to jazz. Their 1962 collaboration Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley helped propel her to prominence and she had her breakout song Tell Me the Truth in 1963. The singer was offered a position in New York's Coconut Grove nightclub, America's most prestigious club.
