Nancy Wilson, a jazz singer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on the 20th of February, 1937. She was married to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. was employed for a lengthy period as a housekeeper. Nancy was the eldest child of six. Nancy was extremely influenced when she was a young girl by the music her dad enjoyed and loved playing when she was at his home. It was clear that she wanted to be a singer at the age of four years old and developed her skills by performing in the church choir. After high school the singer began appearing regularly in Skyline Melodies. She was 15 when won the TV talent show. The nightclubs where she was a regular performer, she began performing at the age of fifteen. Nancy at the age of 17, had graduated high school, and then matriculated at Ohio Central State College (now Central State University) for one year, before deciding to become a singer. In 1956, she recorded her debut record as part of Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band with who she performed on tour between 1956 until 1958. Nancy recorded her first album on Dot Records during the time she spent in this band. Cannonball adderley advised her to go for a trip to New York in order to advance her career. The city she went to was The Big Town, New York in the year 1959. She was commissioned to sing for The Blue Morocco Night Club in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had heard her. The contract was signed signing her with Capitol Records in the year 1960. she debuted that year by releasing the single. Guess who I saw today? Capitol released 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Adderley encouraged her to shift away from R&B to music that was more jazz-based and torch songs. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 was instrumental to propel her into the spotlight and her smash hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. In the following year, she received an invitation to perform at New York's Coconut Grove, the most sought-after club in America.
